It’s easy to have fun in the sun while you’re at Disneyland, but it’s also important to remember to take care of yourself while you’re exploring the park.
Southern California can really heat up in the middle of summer. The average August temperature in Anaheim is 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and Disneyland just reached its highest recorded temperature ever on July 9 — 113 degrees Fahrenheit— so staying cool while you’re in the Happiest Place on Earth isn’t just about comfort, it’s also about your health.
Luckily, the Disney Parks Blog has some amazing tips for guests to help them beat the heat. Beyond going on the rides, there are also tons of cooler, air conditioned activities for you to do during the hottest times of the day.
The Disney Parks Blog suggests visiting some indoor locations when you’re working up too much of a sweat. Taking in a show, visiting characters (at locations such as Star Wars Launch Bay or Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome), going bowling, or diving into an indoor attraction like Turtle Talk with Crush or Ariel’s Undersea Adventure are great ways to stay entertained when you need a break from scorching temperatures.
If staying cooped up indoors doesn’t sound like your idea of fun, there are also some excellent outdoor spots that can provide some relief. Riding the Red Car Trolley, Disneyland Monorail, Main Street Vehicles, or Disneyland Railroad are good ways to rest while also staying on the move throughout the park. Or, you can stroll in the shade of trees and other flora at the Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.
But if you really don’t want to take a break from the rides, you can always get a nice splash by riding a water attraction like Disneyland's Splash Mountain or Disney California Adventure's Grizzly River Run.
More information about summer in the park can be found on the Disney Parks website. Stay cool, Disney fans.
